Mary Elisabeth Lucey
Apr 16, 2018Born in Worcester on the Fourth of July, 1943, she was the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Peterson) Kenney.Mary graduated from South High School in Worcester with the class of 1961. She went on to graduate from Memorial School of Nursing in 1964 and began a life-long career in the fields of nursing and public health. Mary worked for the City of Worcester as a public health nurse and as a nurse in the Wachusett School system. She served as chairman of the Wachusett Regional School Nurses Union as well. After retiring, Mary continued to work administering eye and ear exams in public schools until only a short while ago. She truly enjoyed the time she spent volunteering at the Mercy Center in Worcester, Clarke School for the Deaf and advocating for those with developmental needs in the Worcester area. Her true passion in life was her family and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.Mary is survived by the love of her life and husband of 49 years, John E. Lucey of Worcester; her son, Dr. Timothy Lucey and his wife, Kristina of Amelia Island, FL; her daughters, Pamela Lucey, Esq. of Paxton and Elizabeth Lucey and her partner, Joy Spurlin of Auburn; her grandchildren, Caitlyn and Joseph Lucey and Josephine and Amelia Herlong; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Christine L. Maloney and Nancy Murphy.Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 13 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
